The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo celebrates NATO’s 70th Anniversary

The Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Wolters were invited to the 69^th edition of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, held in the capital of Scotland. The Tattoo showcased musical and cultural acts from China, France, Germany, New Zealand, Nigeria and Trinidad & Tobago, as well as from the UK. The evening was crowned by General Wolters Taking the Salute, which involves an exchange of good wishes with the evening’s Lone Piper.

During the grand finale, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo projected NATO’s logo onto the castle to commemorate the Alliance’s 70^th Anniversary. Air Chief Marshal thanked “the event organisers at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo for helping us mark our 70th birthday. I note that this year is the 69^th edition of the Edinburgh Tattoo so I hope to be back next year to help you celebrate your important milestone”.

The Chairman also highlighted the underlying purpose of the Tattoo, “the Edinburgh Tattoo is an impressive display of creativity and synchronisation that gathers marching bands from across the globe, making it above all a multinational and multicultural platform designed to promote cooperation, partnership and camaraderie”.

This year’s theme, “Kaleidoscope”, was inspired by the optical instrument patented by Scottish scientist, Sir David Brewster in 1817 and Sir Isaac Newton’s original seven hues (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet).
