Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olga Stefanishyna, to NATO Headquarters on Monday (10 January 2022) for a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission, focused on Russia’s continued military build-up.

Calling Ukraine “a valued and long-standing partner” with the right to choose its own path, the Secretary General noted that today’s meeting marks “the start of an important week for European security”, which includes a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council on 12 January, bilateral talks between the United States and Russia, and a meeting of the OSCE.

Mr Stoltenberg called the NATO-Ukraine Commission an opportunity to exchange assessments on the situation; to express Allies’ strong support for Ukraine; and to coordinate ahead of diplomatic engagements with Moscow.
