49ERS QB Brock Purdy & Lions DL Aidan Hutchinson named NFL Rookies of the month for december/january

Quarterback BROCK PURDY of the San Francisco 49ers and defensive lineman AIDAN HUTCHINSON of the Detroit Lions are the NFL Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Month for the months of December and January (Weeks 13-18).

OFFENSE: QB BROCK PURDY, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

• Purdy completed 110 of 161 passes (68.3 percent) over the season’s final six weeks for 1,308 yards and 13 touchdowns with a 112 rating, the highest in the NFL since Week 13, and added a rushing touchdown.
• He is the third rookie quarterback ever to win each of his first five career starts joining BEN ROETHLISBERGER (won first 13 starts in 2004) and MIKE KRUCZEK (first six in 1976) and is the second rookie in NFL history with at least two touchdown passes in six consecutive games (JUSTIN HERBERT, seven consecutive games in 2020).
• Purdy becomes the first-ever 49er to win Offensive Rookie of the Month honors and is the first quarterback to win the award this season.
• He is the first former Iowa State player to win a Rookie of the Month award.

DEFENSE: DL AIDAN HUTCHINSON, DETROIT LIONS

• Hutchinson totaled 21 tackles, five tackles for loss, four sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception over the season’s final six weeks. He led all rookie defensive linemen in tackles and was one of three players in the NFL to have multiple sacks and an interception since Week 13.
• Hutchinson is the first rookie since 1982, when the individual sack became an official statistic, with at least nine sacks (9.5) and three interceptions (three).
• Also earning the honor in November, he is the first Lion to earn Defensive Rookie of the Month honors multiple times and joins MICAH PARSONS (2021), JEREMY CHINN (2020) and DEVIN WHITE (2019) as the most recent rookies to win the award multiple times in a season.
• Hutchinson is the only Michigan player to win a Rookie of the Month award multiple times.
