On Saturday January 11th, the Lola Yamaha ABT Formula E team will continue its return to top-tier motorsport in Round Two of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Mexico City.

Lucas Di Grassi and Zane Maloney will get back behind the wheel of the Lola T001 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit – one of the fastest on the calendar. Both drivers will be on the hunt for their first points of the season following Round One in São Paulo in December, where Zane came home in P12 and Lucas retired with a software issue.

Following a hugely eventful season opener in Brazil, the team will be aiming to build on the foundations laid down on the streets of Sao Paulo, where Lucas qualified strongly, and Zane demonstrated his astute racecraft, battling his way to as high as P5.

With a powertrain co-developed by Yamaha Motor Co. and Lola Cars, and day-to-day team operations run by ABT, the team combines a wealth of motorsport and engineering experience and pedigree. The team’s entry into the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is the first project in Lola Cars’ aim to re-establish itself as an industry leader and pioneer in motorsport and sustainable engineering.

Lucas di Grassi, #11: “It’s always extremely special to race in Mexico, a country which in which I have great memories having won here three times in the past. The passion of the fans here always creates an incredible atmosphere, particularly as you pass through the Foro Sol. I’m looking forward to building on the potential we showed in São Paulo, despite the issues we faced, and continuing to work together with the team to improve and develop as we enter our second race as a team.”

Zane Maloney, #22: “I’m hugely excited to go racing in Mexico City, particularly at such a fast and thrilling circuit as the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, which will mark my first time racing in Mexico. There were plenty of positives to take away from Round One in São Paulo, and we’re already looking ahead at how we can maximise these in Mexico. The racing in Round One was really exciting, and I feel like I showed some strong pace in the race, so we’ll be aiming to convert that into points this time around.”

Mark Preston, Motorsports Director, Lola Cars: “We’re looking forward to kicking off 2025 in Mexico City and building on the performance and results last time out in Sao Paulo. The team has continued to work hard over the past few weeks to prepare us for what will likely be another tight race in Mexico City, and we’re excited to hopefully make some more steps forward as we continue our return to top-tier motorsport.”

Thomas Biermaier, CEO, ABT: “Round One of the season was not without its challenges, but there were certainly some positive aspects that we are looking to build on and carry on to Mexico this weekend. Everyone within the team has been pushing hard since São Paulo to prepare us for this weekend, as we continue to develop and improve the car for the long season ahead.”

The Mexico City E-Prix will get underway at 14:00 local time, on Saturday 11th January. Find out how you can watch all of the action by clicking here.
