Coronavirus response: Estonia delivers medical supplies to Spain and Italy
As part of continued Allied efforts to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, Estonia has donated medical supplies to Italy and Spain, including 30,000 face masks and 2,000 units of disinfectant manufactured by the local producer Nordic Group OÜ, to each ally. Additionally, Estonia allocated EUR 100,000 through the International Red Cross to both countries. The delivery was carried out first to Spain on 21 April 2020 with a cargo plane of the Spanish Armed Forces. The assistance is expected to arrive in Milan, Italy at the end of this week through the services of the logistics firm DSV.
Italy and Spain requested assistance via NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC). The EADRCC is NATO’s principal disaster response mechanism. The Centre operates on a 24/7 basis, coordinating requests from NATO Allies and partners, as well as offers of assistance to cope with the consequences of major crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
