SHAPE, Belgium – Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Curtis M. Scaparrotti hosted a Commander’s Conference at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) from April 11 to 12, 2019.
The conference offered one final opportunity for General Scaparrotti to meet with his commanders across Allied Command Operations (ACO). The leaders discussed NATO priorities, the adaptation and readiness of the Alliance, and the focus for the future as General Scaparrotti prepares to turnover command in May.
«These face-to-face engagements between commanders and leadership throughout ACO are critical to share our experiences, perspectives and collaborative intent in order to provide sound military advice for the political leadership of the NATO Alliance,” said General Scaparrotti. «I appreciate Secretary General Stoltenberg participating in this conference and providing his keen perspective and guidance.”
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg participated on the second day of the conference, providing his insight on the important role the military plays in the Alliance.
«We must continue the hard work to adaptNATO to the changing security environment. Your role as the NATO military commanders is crucial to ensure our Alliance can face any threat in any strategic direction at any time and I thank you for all that you do for our Alliance”, he said.
After serving as the 18th SACEUR, General Scaparrotti will turnover command in May. U.S. Air Force General Tod D. Wolters, who currently serves as commander, Allied Air Command, has been nominated to serve as the 19th SACEUR.
